Gunning For Tamar @ The Cellar review

24th March The Cellar saw 3 bands take to its stage in Gunning For Tamar, Jumping Ships and Deer Chicago.

First up was Deer Chicago who played a set in front of an already half full venue, the last time I had seen Deer Chicago was quite a while ago in Fat Lils in Witney where no one seemed that interested but tonight was very different the crowd seemed a lot more into it and the band delivered with confidence brimming and the tunes to back it up and the crowd lapping it up. Deer Chicago are a great prospect and are well worth keeping an eye on.

After a short break and spotting Ben Lloyd from Dive Dive/Frank Turner fame Jumping Ships took to the stage. I was already a fan of Jumping Ships music but had never got the chance to see them live before and if there is one way to experience the full effect of this band you need to see them live! They deffenitly brought their A game to Oxford, guitarist Kai Smith clearly loving it and at one point disappeared into the crowd to rock out. Would highly recommend everyone to go see Jumping Ships live they are superb and deserve your attention.

Last time I saw Gunning For Tamar was The Port Mahon gig was a sweaty but awesome gig that delivered hard on pretty much everything and was an early contender for my gig of the year… up until now. The band took to the stage with the Cellar rammed and full of people who I know love the band and what they do they waste no time in kicking it off with ‘German Treasure Island’ and then have the confidence to play a new song (the name escapes me, I had been drinking) which sounds huge and to me sounds like a future favourite for sure. The 3 songs that make up the ‘Time Trophies’ EP are all played tonight and all come into full effect in a live setting. The band seem to get better and better every time I see them and always seem to have a good crowd, I cant wait to see what’s next for these guys.

Highly recommend this album by Ancient Sky its called T.R.I.P.S...

Great news! Andrew WK will be re-releasing his album ‘I Get Wet’ on July 17th on CD and Vinyl it will also include loads of unreleased songs, alternative mixes, demos and all the other good stuff that should come with a reissue.

Remember he is doing a few UK dates in April
